It has taken FOREVER for me to get some 6 month notes on Nora. I think life with 3 has caught up with me! Or it could be a certain baby who used to sleep all of the time and now only wants to nap while being held and a certain mama who enjoys that and won't make said baby nap in the crib. The days just continue to fly by. Nora was 6 months old on 4/6, however I will just include everything up until now.
We just had her 6 month appointment this week. She was 21 lbs, 2 oz and 28" putting her in the 98th percentile for both. The doctor said she is perfectly proportionate :) She has a ton of cute 12 month summer clothes, hopefully they will still fit her when it's actually warm enough to wear them! She is wearing 12 month stuff now and they are already snug. I also started using size 4 diapers when we use disposables which look a little big but she still manages to poop out of them often enough. The 3s were not big enough to go around her waist! Her hair has also really started to grow in. A few weeks ago, I combed out all of her icky dry cradle cap with some baby oil. I also combed out a bunch of teeny baby hairs and just like that her hair practically grew overnight. She still has a bald spot in the back but is now rocking a little baby fluffy mohawk.
Developmentally, Nora is doing just fine. She is a little behind on the gross motor areas since she doesn't roll over, but the doctor is not concerned and said that area has one of the biggest ranges of "normal". She makes lots of sounds including "maaa maa maa" when she is sad and her other favorite sound is "gaaaa". She has also started yelling sometimes and making coughing noises when wanting to be extra dramatic. She continues to love spitting all of the time. Overall she's generally pretty quiet & content.
She went from not really being interested in sitting up to pretty much just doing it. She sits for long periods of time now and loves to sit and watch the madness around her. I still put a pillow behind her but I am sure she would be fine without it. She can lean way forward to grab what she needs and lift herself back up. Also still loves playing with her feet and grabs on tightly and won't let go when I'm trying to change her diaper.
We retired the bouncy seat and pulled out the high chair and she immediately loved being up higher and being able to see everything. We started solids a week or so before she turned 6 months and it's still pretty slow going. Her first foods were green beans, peas, sweet potatoes, avocado and carrots. For fruits we have tried pears, bananas, mangos and applesauce. She likes avocados, sweet potatoes and bananas the most. Sometimes she will pound it right down but other times she spits out most of it. She still doesn't eat very much, I would say 1/2 "ice cube" for a feeding would be a lot for her right now. I have only been using cereal to thicken stuff up. The fruits seem to be too sweet for her so I usually add some milk & cereal just to dilute the sweetness a bit. We have also been trying to work on a sippy cup because if girlfriend refuses to take a bottle I'm going to make sure she will take a sippy! I have been making her food but haven't gotten crazy and done a ton at a time since I did it for Levi and then he refused to eat any of it!
She also got her bottom 2 teeth right before 6 months. No other teeth on the horizon.
Then there is sleep. Her sleep patterns continue to be all over the board. Right before 6 months I felt that she was getting too big for the rock n' play and that she would sleep better in her crib where I wouldn't hear every little noise and she could stretch out a bit. So we just put her in there one night (completely passed out of course) and she slept until 4am. I wish I could say it lasted but it didn't! She has slept all night a couple of times since then but is usually up at least once or twice. Sometimes she has a big old burp to get out before midnight. And she still has some nights where she is up a lot. But, I guess it could be worse. She still stays up until around 9pm and takes little cat naps all day long. Gone are the days where she will stay asleep in the carseat! (And sidenote - that thing is getting mighty heavy to lug around. Last week she had her inaugural ride sitting in the cart at Target and she loved it so I am thinking of retiring the bucket carseat very soon because it's just so heavy to lug around.)
She also celebrated her 1st Easter this month! And since the weather was warmer for awhile, we got to spend some time outside. We put up her swing and she loved that too. Hopefully stroller rides are in the near future!
Let's see, lastly she just continues to be enamored with her big brothers. She just lights up when she sees Charlie and her eyes just sparkle. She likes Levi, too but like I've mentioned sometimes he is just Mr. Take it too Far and invades her personal space or won't just leave her along when she's content. I think he's finally learning that she doesn't like him being 1" from her face. They both love to make her laugh and they are both good helpers most of them time. Levi pronounces "Marie" with a T sound (much like manure is "tanure") so it's "Nora Tarie". They both call her that a lot and she thinks it is hilarious. She loves reading books with us before nap & bed. She also loves looking at her black & white books.
We're over halfway through Nora's first year. It's going so fast!
