We are officially back in the chicken raising business. We picked up chicks (haha) on Monday. We probably should have waited one more week for some nicer weather but so far they are doing okay. The boys had been busy building a more sturdy pen for them so that we could use sand for bedding this year. The pen they built could comfortably accommodate 85 full grown birds so we ordered 90, assuming we would lose a few along the way. When we went to pick them up, they were already boxed up and ready. Charlie & I counted when we got home as we transferred them to the pool and there were 104! We have only lost 2 so far which is totally normal (they were likely hatched on Sunday so had a very busy first 48 hours)....as long as we don't continue to lose 1 a day...
The boys are having fun feeding and watering them. Today we took 3 in for Charlie to show his preschool class and for Levi to show his friends at ECFE. Charlie was excited but luckily did NOT share the eventual fate of the chickens like he did last year. The only thing he really had to say was that we started with 104 but 2 died so now we have 102.
They don't stay this tiny & cute for long!
