Farmin'

Valentine's Day: Erik spots a pig while driving down the road, manages to catch it, and brings it home. Somehow 1 unexpected pig turns into 4 pigs. I was game for more than 1 because Levi got quite attached right away and we are pretty clear the pigs are not pets. A little competition at the feeder is also a good thing. Their names are LuLu, Gertie, Curly & 7. We expect to have them until mid-summer. Once we installed an auto waterer and grandpa & grandma brought a big feeder, pig chores got even easier. We feed them plenty of fruit & veggie scraps, too. Levi now says he's going to be a pig farmer.

We picked up chicks the day after Easter and we only have a few weeks left. We got 100 this year and only lost 3 the first week. Last year there was a lull in the deaths until the last couple of weeks when they get big so we will see how it goes from here on out. Levi is obsessed with feeding them and trying to chase them outside. They like to run out to find feed in the mornings. Chicken chores are easy too since we now have water already running back to the shed. We should have done that the first year! Finally figuring things out the 4th time around.
