Charlie is 7!

It looks like I never did this when Charlie turned 6 - and I remember he refused to do a video, too! Oh well.

Loving: Football. football. football. I have never seen Charlie so interested in something like this before. I watched NFL football this past season than I probably have combined in my lifetime. I think he thinks about football 24/7. It's definitely something from school because we are not football nuts by any means around here!

He's also really into Legos. And he loves school so much - everything about it but like most boys, his favorite parts are phy ed and recess (because football!)

Hating: Charlie has major FOMO and just hates the thought of missing out on anything. He is still go, go, go all day and hates any sort of down time. However, he also gets super angry if Levi tries to stall at bedtime at all. He also does not like reading out loud to us.

ALso, any pants with buttons.

Eating: Yes. All of the food. All of the time. He thinks bologna sandwiches are the cat's meow (gag!), but really he rarely complains about what we're having. He still eats an impressive amount of food and is always hungry when he gets home from school. The BBQ riblet is the only school meal he doesn't like so he takes a lunch on those days. Still hates peanut butter.

Reading: I am sure he is one of the top readers in his class, from what I have seen when I am in the classroom and from the assessments they have done he is way above the standard. He loves non-fiction books (namely FOOTBALL related). He does not like being forced to read and still loves to be read to. He is a smarty and just remembers words. He gets really anxious about not knowing a word and I think that is why he doesn't like reading out loud.

Writing & Drawing: Drawing is a rather new thing and his favorite thing to draw is....football helmets. He has a notebook that he keeps all of his football drawings in. His writing is getting a lot sloppier even since the beginning of the year. I'm pretty sure he likes to be first and rushes through everything.

Doing: Talking about football, asking the same questions/requesting the same thing repeatedly (him & Levi would be great interrogators, great at breaking down their subject), playing on the Kindle, being helpful, Legos, any sort of building project

He also claims he is really into Minecraft on the Kindle but I am convinced he is just hitting the screen and actually has no idea what he is doing. I don't know the purpose/how to play and I don't think he really does either.  He hasn't been able to explain to me what he is doing.

Charlie is still stubborn and particular. Not nearly as bad as when he was a toddler (now that we have kids who are NOT like he was I can't help but laugh about some of his routines and demands). He knows what he likes and what he doesn't. If he doesn't want to do something, good luck! We have to be very careful about threatening to take things away because he will quickly analyze and decide if it's worth it and he sticks to his decision. So, there is no such thing as empty threats with him. About the only thing we generally have leverage with is the Kindle. If he loses the Kindle during negotiations he won't even ask for it until he knows it's been the specified number of days. His reasoning skills are far beyond that of most kids his age.
Talking about: football. and football.

Singing: I don't catch him singing to himself as much anymore but he loves doing GoNoodle at school and he's also a big fan of the big country artists and enjoys some good post supper YouTube jamming.

Wearing: Sweatpants/comfy pants every day. Kid HATES pants with buttons and gets extremely angry when we make him wear jeans to church or sunday school. Also, him and his friend wear their Vikings jersey every Tuesday so that is a guarantee...he has it written on the calendar in his room. This is the first year he is also super rough on pants.

Watching: Charlie was really pumped about the PBS Kids channel that would have cartoons on 24/7. His favorite is probably Odd Squad. I much prefer PBS to the annoying things he finds on Netflix like Legos, Angry Birds, etc. Oh, for awhile last summer he was also into watching Matchbox race track videos on YouTube. Very thrilling.

Sleeping: We go to bed early around these parts. We are usually all finished with the bedtime routine by 7:30-7:45 and CHarlie passes out instantly. I am pretty sure he wakes up sometime in the 5am hour but stays in his bed until 6...his clock runs a bit fast but he comes down when my clock says 6:06 on the dot every day. At least now that he is older he can entertain himself and doesn't demand me to get up. He is definitely the first one up and is so good about getting himself ready. We appreciate his early riser status since the bus comes at 6:40. Since I am not a morning person I can't imagine fighting with him every morning to get him moving.  It is pretty amazing that he gets himself up and ready with very little assistance from us. When we left for the hospital to have Waylon my instructions I left for Charlie was just "listen for the bus to drive by and tell him". He really is a dream child!

Feelings about family: He is seriously the most helpful child. We probably expect way too much from him but he is so responsible and I make sure to tell him all of the time how much I appreciate him!!! Him and Levi can get along so well, and they can also be at each other's throats. They are finally at a point where they will go outside and play nicely in the sandbox together. He is also so good with Nora and they are best buddies. He also doesn't mind holding Waylon as long as he can watch TV. He has never really been overly impressed or overbearing when it comes to babies. With all 3 of his younger siblings he just really has never seemed to be that interested. Not to say that he doesn't like them it's just very much a "whatever" kind of attitude. Not nearly as smothering as Levi & Nora are.
