To Kindergarten!

Charlie started Kindergarten last week! We are happy to have 3 days under our belts and a nice long 4 day weekend to recover from the first week. Charlie has been counting down the days for a long time so it was hard to believe the time was finally here. I was dreading it, not because of him going to school, but because that would also mark the official end of my leave from work (even though I'd been working a bit this summer). Lots of changes and transitions for everyone...

Monday was check in day and meet the teacher. He loved organizing his supplies and getting to check out the classroom. His teacher lives just a couple of miles from us and we drive by her house every time we go to town. There are 5 KG teachers and from what I knew of them, I think Charlie would do great in any of them. Working in the school district has definitely eased my mind since I know many of the staff members and a little bit about how things work...or at least I have an idea of who to ask!  After check in, Charlie came to work with me for the rest of the morning and we hit up UnHinged for a late lunch. After he suckered me out of lunch, he wanted to go home so we met Erik and he hung out at home for the rest of the afternoon.
Tuesday was the first day for K-2. He's complained about me not letting him ride the bus in the morning but the bus comes here at 6:45am. No!!!! School starts at 8 which is the same time I get to work so it works out perfectly. I did say he can ride the bus home some days but most of the time he will just ride over to the HS/JH/ECLC and I will collect him there. Otherwise he's looking at 9.5 hour day with busing. For a child that was taking a nap every day up until a couple of weeks ago!

Will they ever all be looking at the camera AND smiling at the same time?

The first 3 days I walked him all of the way into his classroom. They also have the option to eat free breakfast at school. We will see how that goes, eating at home is something that keeps everybody busy and out of trouble for a bit, but it's nice to have the option.

It was so hot the 3 days they had school. It was so humid that the pictures on my phone turned out fuzzy. The floors were slippery, too. This is why we shouldn't have school in August! But, it will be nice to be done on May 20th and then have a nice long break next summer due to construction of the new school!

After Day 2: Fell asleep on the way to get Levi & Nora.
So far he enjoys it. He's bringing home things every day. We've got another calendar to keep track of and if I can manage to keep that straight I think we'll be good. I'm hoping they do enough variety to keep him entertained and interested since it looks like they're doing a lot of letter review and things like that. His BFF from preschool is in his class and he said he found his old van riding buddies from preschool to play with at recess.

Levi is probably having the toughest time. I am pretty sure he thinks we're leaving him & Nora at daycare and then spending all day hanging out together. Nope. He starts preschool this week and will be going in with us in the mornings when he has school. Hopefully then he will see we are in fact not just having fun without him :)

3 days down, 172 to go!
