Fair 2015

The boys had a great time at the county fair last weekend! They were so excited to be able to show calves again in the novice class. Once again, much thought and debate went into who was going to help who, but in the end Charlie pretty much handled his calf by himself with Tyler walking along just in case. And Ryan ended up helping Levi and Haiden. Levi was pretty insistent all along that he would be doing it by himself but maybe next year!

We got to the fair shortly before the calves on Friday afternoon. The boys were happy that Sue was there because all along they had been wondering if she would be there to help them wash the calves like last year. Sue wasn't prepared to wash calves, but she was a good sport. 

After we got them all cleaned up they boys wanted to do the pedal pull. They let the 3 year olds pull for practice and Levi hopped right on and did pretty well. Charlie got 1st place in the 5 year olds!  Not bad considering when he wanted to do a pedal pull last year he didn't even really know how to pedal. He told me it's a good thing he practices riding bike in the grass so much because it made his legs really strong. His reaction when he got done was priceless and I don't think he really understood that he won. He does like his trophy though and slept with it that night.

We went back to the red farm pretty early to get ready for the big show day. On Saturday morning we stopped for donuts from Brookie, followed by a visit to great grandpa & grandma. We got to see Grandma's owie on her leg, which Levi has reminded us several times since is "us-gusting".

The calves had already gotten their baths for the day so we just wandered around the fair and waited for the open show to start. Charlie looked so proud leading his calf & Levi had fun with his buddy Haiden helping out. This year Charlie named his calf "Cookie" and Levi settled on "Donut" after we said no to Sandy, Alpha, Alfalfa, Emily, Nora and House.
