Nora is the sleepiest baby ever. Maybe the boys slept this much when they were this little, but I'm not sure. Many people who have seen her several times have never actually seen her with her eyes open. She will have a short wakeful period in the morning but her major awake time is in the evenings where she will actually be up for a couple of hours. Otherwise I would say she is on the high end of the average for sleeping. Better than on the lower side of average!
It's still hard to say what a night will bring. She continues to mostly dislike the bassinet. Some nights I can put her in there and she will be just fine but other nights she will just have a fit and refuse to settle down no matter how many times I try. Up until the last week, she was always waking up between 10:30-11 which was really tough for me because I wanted to go to bed before that and usually did, but would just get a short nap. Now she has mostly been sleeping by 10 and skipping that 10:30 wake up. Then she is usually up between 1-2 and then again between 5-6. After that she will go back to sleep until 9ish. When you're not in the middle of newborn raising, that might look daunting but when you're in the thick of it it's not so bad. How your view of a "good nights sleep" changes! I do get a little frustrated when I think about the next opportunity I will have to sleep for more than 3-4 hours at a time so I try not to think about it. It is what it is and I don't mind the 1-1 quiet time with her. Now if we're several months in, then I will complain much louder! But yeah, she sleeps most of the time. It works out well that I can get up and help the big boys get breakfast & get going for the day while she is sleeping away. She has had a couple of nights where she has just been a complete disaster for a couple of hours. Last night she screamed from 10pm-1am on and off and just wouldn't calm down. Not sure what her problem was but I'm glad that has been a rare occasion because it's very hard!
Uncle T surprised us one night. |
She is a great eater and all is well with that. We have tried a couple of different pacifiers and she is not a fan...lots of gagging and just no interest. I'm on the fence about this. We haven't had trouble taking it away from the boys but if she doesn't care should I really push it? On the other hand, it would be certainly be nice if we're in the car or something and she's mad if she could take it. I don't plan on buying more to try, if she wants it she has 2 options she can pick from :) But she doesn't seem interested in sucking on it & if she's fussing at all, she is hungry and knows the difference. Due to her lack of interest in a pacifier I was a little nervous about her taking a bottle. I helped Charlie give her a couple of ounces last Saturday and she did fine so that was good. Based on what she had in a couple of bottles, I'd say she's taking about 2 oz a feeding. Her only issue (and it's not her fault) is that she gets the hiccups multiple times a day. Poor baby!
She's wearing 0-3 month clothes and they are not baggy on her. I think she had a huge growth spurt in the last week - I almost feel like I can see her growing! She is getting very strong and holds her head up really well, even lifting it off the boppy when lying on her tummy. I tried weighing her on the bathroom scale while holding her and according to that, she weighs 12.4 lbs. I am not sure that is possible, that would be over a 1lb gain a week! She won't have another doctor appointment until 2 months so we'll see what she weighs in at then. But, her 0-3 month sleepers are snug....not fair!! She only wore them for 2 weeks. Her baby acne just set in a couple of days ago, hopefully it clears up soon, it's not too bad yet. She still has her stork bite between her eyes & when she gets really mad it gets really red! I feel like her hair is lightening up already & I think (HOPE) she turns super blonde like Levi. Her eyelashes and eybrows are super light so it could happen!
She still does not like to be swaddled at all with her arms in. She is not a fan of the vibrations on the bouncy chair or bassinet and could care less about white noise as well (unless it's 2 unruly brothers making "white noise"...she likes that). I have tried the swing a couple of times and she really would just rather be held or lay on the couch. She spends a lot of time in the Moby because I need hands sometimes! Whenever I have her in the moby in the store, the people just flock to her. We caused a cart jam in Coborns last weekend when a lady just stopped and stared at her. haha.
I was positive I got a (REAL) little smile out of her at exactly 1 month. Then the next night Erik said she smiled at him, too! Now Charlie is determined to get a smile out of her. The boys are doing so good with her. I was pretty worried about Levi but he is very gentle with her. They both love holding her and singing to her. They always look for her right away in the mornings. Levi is constantly kissing her and touching her but he has learned to keep his drool & fingers off of her face. They're good helpers around the house too, helping set/clear off the table, getting diapers, water or whatever else I need and cleaning up their toys.

Grandma stayed for a couple of days and then I successfully kept everyone alive for 3 nights and 2 days :) It went really well, but of course we were all very happy for Erik to come home.
