Waylon - 3 months

Another big month for Mr. Waylon. Big milestones this past month:

  • First airplane ride/vacation/international travel! Waylon went to Cancun with us for a week in January - who says the 1st baby doesn't get to do anything by themselves! He was such a great traveler and was very "helpful" while we were working
  • In pretty major news, Waylon also slept thru the night (10pm- 5 or 6am) for a couple of very glorious weeks! He started right at 2 months and I was hoping that Mexico wouldn't throw him off. Nope, he slept great down there, too! However, when we got back he started getting up again and I would say he's CLOSE but not really sleeping all night.  I am able to hold him off until 3-4am usually but then he is a bit restless after that :( I don't want him up more, but I really despise the 4am wake up because it seems like I don't get to go to sleep much before it's time to get up for the day. Oh well, it could definitely be much worse!
  • Another positive thing is that his evening fussiness is much better! I finally picked up some gas drops and started giving them to him when his tummy feels extra full at night and it seems to help. Getting him to sleep is not nearly as difficult as it once was.
  • Shortly after we got back from Mexico, Waylon was super clingy and fussy (also when his sleep pattern changed). I have read about "wonder weeks" and looked into it and sure enough, he was definitely going through one of those. After it passed, his new skills included lots and lots of cooing and chatting and chewing on his hands constantly. He loves telling stories and is so animated - reminds me of Levi!
  • Still doesn't really like bath time. Specifically, washing his hair makes him very angry!
  • Will somewhat tolerate sitting in the bouncy chair and laying under his brand new play mat. He's definitely looking at and tracking the toys. He's also really good at rolling up onto his side. I have a feeling he is going to be an early mover!
  • We just ran out of size 1 diapers and moved up to size 2. Also just pulled out the 3-6 month clothes, it seems like this is the size that other kids have been in the shortest amount of time.
  • Also just barely squeaking in this month is that I officially was back to work as of 1/30. I resigned from my secretary position, which  I fully intended to do before school started and couldn't due to my boss going thru  chemo. I gladly helped fill the gaps but man, I am relieved to only be doing 1 job instead of 2 (or 3 like I was last fall). I will be teaching 3 mornings a week and doing daycare visits 1 morning a week along with teaching 1 evening usually. I am so excited to just focus on teaching! It has already been an adjustment on that front but I certainly don't miss trying to balance it all. Waylon spent some time at work with me last week and then Erik is taking his 2 weeks of paternity leave and staying with him, then he will start daycare with the other 2 kids. This first week he did great without me - he slept pretty much the entire time and was content. He didn't take much for bottles, but he wasn't crabby or anything. we'll have to work on tweaking our routine to figure all of that out. the kids will just be going to daycare in the mornings, not looking forward to all of the running again but thankful for the pretty flexible schedule that I have and the fact that I don't have to be at work until 8:30 :) I am not ready to send him to daycare but I know he will be in good hands.
